An all-star band of sorts, Dromedaries is Keir Neuringer on alto saxophone, Shayna Dulberger on contrabass and Julius Masri on drums. Currently very busy with Irreversible Entanglements, where he has proved himself a terrific ensemble player, Neuringer’s biting alto tone is given free reign in this dynamic trio, whether being supported by or clashing with Dulberger and Masri’s powerful rhythm section deconstructions…Jessica Ackerley once lent her formidable guitar skills to FOH favorites, Gold Dime, but her solo (as she’ll appear here) and guitar trio work is more likely to call to mind the floating but highly focused sound world of Jimmy Giuffre’s early experiments in free improvisation…Dave Kadden’s Invisible Circle brings together a host of unlikely elements – oboe, casio keyboards, and voice – into meditative, structured improvisations that nod towards Hindustani music, minimalism and the new age. Earth Pigs, it’s all you…
DROMEDARIES is a Philadelphia/Brooklyn-based trio comprised of Keir Neuringer (saxophone), Shayna Dulberger (bass), and Julius Masri (percussion), who first played together in this format in 2014. The three musicians share an approach to improvisation that is grounded in technical virtuosity, instrumental physicality, and a rigorous approach to form. Stated differently: they climb deep into their instruments and play hard to reward listeners for their time. All three have performed with and been mentored by elders of the jazz avant garde. Each performs solo and leads their own projects, and each has long-standing collaborations across a range of genres. Their first album, recorded by Eugene Lew in Philadelphia in 2015, was released in 2017 on independent cassette label Already Dead Tapes. A follow-up is forthcoming.
“As Dromedaries, the trio seeks to exhaust themselves as well, hurling their bodies at and through their instruments in fits of physicality that speak to their music’s measured rage and its transcendent exploration of love.”
-Alex Smith, author
“Dromedaries is the real deal, one of the best jazz albums of 2017, hands down.”
-Scott Scholz, Tabs Out
“…with Neuringer’s music…mortal purpose is a given.”
-Bill Meyer, Wire Magazine
“Shayna Dulberger is an integral part of that generation who has made the commitment to unlocking further mysteries inside the tone world.”
-William Parker
“…exceptional drumming, which maintained a solid, unrelenting drive while incorporating the most nuanced, complex intricacies.”
-Victor L. Schermer, All About Jazz

The guitar is a focal point in her various projects, with explorations in sonic realms of noise, jazz and experimental rock. She currently leads her own quartet and co-leads the experimental rock band, ESSi, with both projects slated for album releases in 2019.
